Feature Request: Official Grok CLI and Build Tool

Motivation

With the rise of agentic coding workflows, developers are increasingly using CLI-based agents (such as Claude Code, Antigravity CLI, etc.). Currently, while Grok has a powerful API, there is no official command-line tool or build system similar to what other labs provide.

Having an official Grok CLI (and possibly a Grok Build system) would greatly improve the developer experience, especially for:

• Local agent development
• CI/CD integration
• Unified agent management tools (e.g. Multica)

Proposed Solution

1. Release an official grok CLI (similar to claude or agy)
2. Provide a daemon/runtime mode so it can be used with agent orchestration platforms
3. Consider a "Grok Build" experience for packaging and deploying agent workflows

Additional Context

• Currently using Grok via API
• Also actively using Multica + Antigravity CLI
• Would love to see Grok have first-class CLI tooling

AI actually just shipped this (or something very close to it) a few days ago!

On May 14, 2026, they launched Grok Build in early beta.
It's a terminal-based coding agent / CLI that runs Grok right in your command line.
Features include: full-screen TUI (text UI), sub-agents, plans/workflows, file editing, parallel work, etc.
Currently available to SuperGrok Heavy subscribers (with an install command and login).

So the feature request was basically answered very quickly by xAI themselves. The issue might now be outdated or could be used for further feedback on the cookbook side.

An official Grok CLI would be a good place to define continuity primitives early, before ad-hoc session and tool behavior becomes part of the public contract.

A minimal first version could expose commands such as:

grok session inspect
grok checkpoint create
grok resume <continuation_id>
grok trace export
grok decision inspect
grok action verify

The important part is the runtime model behind them:

1. Every run gets a stable "session_id".
2. Checkpoints are created before compaction, interruption, or deferred approval.
3. Tool calls receive stable "action_id" values so retries are idempotent.
4. High-impact actions can return "ALLOW", "BLOCK", or "DEFER" before side effects occur.
5. Deferred runs return a "continuation_id" instead of leaving a worker blocked.
6. Completed actions emit receipts that can be exported with the trace.

A compact trace record might look like:

This would make a future Grok CLI easier to integrate into CI/CD and agent orchestrators because a run could be inspected, paused, resumed, and audited without depending on terminal text or a still-running process.

The model can stay provider-agnostic and optional at first, but defining these identifiers and state transitions early would prevent a lot of compatibility pain later.
